Power to Youth (PtY)
The vision of the Power to You(th) consortium is that Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) from underserved communities make informed choices, enjoy their sexuality, and are free from harmful practices in gender-equitable and violence-free societies.
The Power to You(th) consortium unites Amref Flying Doctors, Rutgers and Sonke Gender Justice, all established organisations with synergistic expertise, geographic footprint and networks.
The Power to Youth (PTY) program (2021 – 2025) will be implemented in seven countries: Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Malawi, Senegal and Uganda.
All Consortium partners are extensively experienced in strengthening underserved communities that usually do not participate in decision-making and are most at risk of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) and SRHR violations.
In Kenya, the program will be implemented in four counties i.e. Kajiado, Homabay, Siaya and Migori County. This selection was based on the fact that these are all patriarchal societies, where decision-making lies with the men. Furthermore, all these counties also show a high prevalence of the key issues of Power to You(th).
The Kenyan Power to You(th) Country Management Team (CMT) is composed of lead Partners Amref Health Africa (Partner A), the Network for Adolescent and Youth of Africa (Partner B) as well as Youth-Led CSOs that represent the four counties:
- Siaya Muungano Network – Youth led and women rights organization
- Wanawake Wavuvi – Youth Led and women rights organization
