Safe and Inclusive Cities (SAIC II)

The Safe and Inclusive Cities (SAIC II) is funded by DANIDA, the Project Period 2022 – 2025 (4 years). Implemented by Plan International Kenya, Transform Empowerment for Action initiatives Movement (TEAM), Daraja Civic Initiatives Forum (DCIF), Network for Adolescents and Youth of Africa (NAYA), Talanta Africa, United Destiny Shapers (UDS), Kibera Joy Initiatives (KJI), Undugu Family, Maria Rossana, Generation Shapers, Horn of Africa Youth Network (HoAYN), Uraia.

The Safe and Inclusive Cities (SAIC) programme will continue in Kenya and build on best practices and lessons learned from the SP 2018-2021 in Nairobi and Kisumu and add SRHR interventions as a new component. The programme will continue to be implemented in the same informal settlements as in the SP 2018-21 and the programme will thereby build onto existing achievements, relations, and structures.

The programme will take a long-term perspective but be nexus sensitive towards changes in Kenya, particularly in these urban contexts, which require programme adaptations towards building social cohesion as well as crisis response and disaster preparedness as urban fragility levels change.

Programme objectives

Objective 1: Children, adolescents and young people have the skills, attitudes and opportunities to drive sustainable, gender transformative change.

The interventions of the Kenya country programme will take place in the following informal settlements:

  • Nyalenda and Kondele in Kisumu.
